Chinese New Year is always the perfect excuse to pick out some gorgeous oriental inspired interior designs schemes (out of the thousands out there) to showcase. I’m a huge fan of a touch of the orient within a modern rustic design scheme, it adds a feeling of wanderlust to a room which is particularly useful in our relaxed spaces…the bedroom or living room. In our living room we have a huge gloss black & brass Chinese wedding cabinet which hides the T.V, it is genuinely one of the only pieces in our home I can NEVER imagine being replaced…I love it!
I’ve long fantasised about birdcage lights (I found the most incredible wooden birdcage to convert in an antiques shop a few years back, the guy in the shop said it wasn’t for sale and I’ve never found one as stunning since, so there’s the reason I don’t have one…if you’re reading shop owner is it for sale yet??) How gorgeous is the entrance to the Whampoa Club Restaurant filled with black birdcage lighting and THAT chair?
Or a more colourful take on birdcage lighting is featured here in the awesomely named FOOK YEW restaurant in Jakarka. You can see the full restaurant tour here and it’s well worth a nosey as their decor is seriously good.
For a more calm approach at oriental rustic this contemporary bedroom decor is my favourite, with the rustic wooden elements and that intricate pattern framing the bed.
You can have a browse of the full scheme here.
How do you add a touch of the orient to your home? With a statement piece of furniture or a string of lantern fairy lights (I particularly like the ones pictured below from Lights 4 Fun) ? Let me know below & Happy Chinese New Year!
