Jungle bedroom for an 8 year old boy

We’ve been super busy working on our big renovation project & getting that ready to Airbnb when we aren’t in Granada. That project has taken all of our energy leftover after daily life and work commitments but now it is almost there we can start thinking about smaller projects at our full-time home in Estepona. Summer break is long here in Spain and gets so so hot during July and August (as I write this were over 3 weeks into summer break already and the temperature hit 43 degrees this week). We’ve decided a good summer project for those hot afternoon hours when we shelter inside with the air-conditioning would be to update our son’s bedroom to give it new life and make it feel a little more grown up before he turns 8 later this year. We wanted him to be involved in the design process and enjoy upcycling elements to feel involved & add his personality.

We have large built in wardrobes that were looking tired and needed to incorporate book storage, shelving for the all important Lego builds and a desk space for drawing, crafting etc. We decided to create a calming space by painting the walls, wardrobes and shelving area all in the same olive shade of green. Our son chose a jungle wall mural from Photowall for the wall beside his bed so we picked a green out from that, we will add some of the blue and coral shade from the mural into the room too in small doses, with all of the colours from the lego builds and we plan to incorporate a minifigure wall we don’t want the colours to begin feeling hectic and clashing. Below is a vision board for the look and feel of the room, the brief was jungle, explorer, surfing & South America (the trickiest brief’s always seem to come from little people), I think we are going to nail it with this as a starting point of inspiration. What do you think?

Wall Mural – Photowall (PR product)

Olive Paint – Rustoleum & Leroy Merlin Colour Match

Rug – Lorena Canals

Bedding – Snurk

Light – Ikea (reusing as we already have this)

Surfboard wall decor – Etsy
