Spring equinox, a time to celebrate colour

Spring always feels like a little festival for me as we come out of the cool shades of winter in nature and into a burst of blossom pink with fresh greens, shortly followed by the yellows and lilacs the Easter period brings with it. I admit the colour tones of spring aren’t “my” colours, I’m much more of an Autumn personality but the way Spring shades signify life waking up and the excitement that brings make me fall in love with them for this short few months before the deeper, more vibrant colours of summer arrive. This year the on trend shades of lavender, lemon and mint can be added in small, subtle touches to your home (or your outfit) without committing to any large, expensive changes.

Spring is naturally at time to declutter and clear out your space so I will be fully embracing that, starting with a clear-out, including the garden too as that’s always a neglected space over winter. Interior design elements that I will be adding are mostly focused around nature at this time of year. I will be using cut spring flowers in the house such as daffodils and tulips mixed with some sprigs from blossom trees. Here in Andalucia we have the Almond, lemon and orange blossom in bloom making the streets and country walks smell heavenly. In the UK the cherry blossom on our street in Yorkshire is one of the seasonal moments that I look forward to the most. Outside it’s time for spring bulbs to bloom and a time to start planting fruit and vegetable crops, something that I will be doing much more of this year & can’t wait to share with you. I love to add a spring fragrance to our home to add fresher tones, recently I’ve loved burning rock incense over coals, it’s a fresher and more intense way to fragrance the home than incense sticks and is strong enough to fragrance the garden fully too. I buy my incense rocks from the Patio de los perfumes in Granada, an experience store with it’s own courtyard garden and perfume museum that you simply must visit if in the city.
