I’ve never done a review of a specific place before but thought I’d start sharing some places with amazing decor with you this year, starting with Turtle Bay. This was our first visit to a Turtle Bay restaurant and I was seriously impressed (I’m always a little sceptical about restaurant chains, I wonder if they can keep up with the quality). Turtle Bay is a Caribbean bar and restaurant designed to transport you to sunnier climes, the decor is Caribbean beach shack meets rustic industrial and it works a treat, with sailcloths suspended from fairy light clad wooden ladders and scaffolding handrails leading to the restrooms (I wish I’d photographed the ladies as the decor was perfectly, imperfect but getting baby changed was the main priority).
The menu was as authentic as Caribbean food gets in the centre of York full of heat and flavour, with a wide range of fish dishes and goat curry (the sweetcorn fritters were something special). The food was simply served on wooden boards and enamel dishes, very clever as a contrast to the vibrant decor throughout the restaurant. There is a ‘happy hour’ 2 4 1 deal on everyday of the week (which we obviously took advantage of), the Marley Mojito transported us straight back to a day at the beach in St Maarten!

We will definitely be visiting again soon and I’d recommend anyone else who enjoys their food with a kick and decor with personality to give it a try too!
