Exactly three months ago today we signed the deeds and received the keys to our exciting renovation project in Spain. On the same day our family business premises in the UK flooded meaning Mr LMH had to return leaving Little LMH and I in Spain until the 17th of February. I shared a little of our plans in the blog post We’re moving to Granada but felt like it was time to give a bit more away now that we have owned the property for a quarter of a year already (although it feels like 10000 years!). Below is the floor plan of the existing property, much of which we plan to reconfigure internally;
The house is a rural farm dwelling 30 minutes out of Granada city centre in a small hamlet. It has been used as a country property for farming livestock and vegetables, the layout is original with the addition of the upstairs store room/studio. Our plan (before Covid-19 arrived in Europe) was to renovate the property to the left of the courtyard this spring with a view to move into that side in July this year, we’d then start work on the property to the right of the courtyard and the outdoor spaces eventually having living space for ourselves and three additional self contained holiday lets/Airbnbs. In the courtyard we plan to have a rustic outdoor dining space, complete with greenery & shaded areas, including a beautiful aged olive tree as the house is surrounded by olive groves. In the walled garden we plan to add a swimming pool, outdoor kitchen & lounge area suitable for sundowners and an outdoor cinema style area complete with projector. Can you picture it? (lol)
We haven’t lost hope for getting out there and started on our project at some point this year but equally we’re being realistic about the fact that it may not happen until next year now BUT we’re grateful we have the house sat waiting for us, ready to start work on as soon as we can drive/fly to Spain. For the meantime we can crack on with planning every little detail meticulously and keeping our dream alive. I’ll share more as I’m going along so please hit subscribe on the blog or follow along on Instagram if you’re interested in our journey to become expats.
Who’s coming to visit when we finally get out there and our renovation is complete? The cava will be on us!
Pin for later…
