Last month I headed off for a much needed break from the UK’s never ending winter to visit my sister who has made Dubai her home, now Dubai isn’t know for it’s modern rustic vibes and sustainable credentials but it does seem to be making a move in the right direction for us looking for a more eco lifestyle…in fact there were too many cool coffee shops and rustic cafes for us to fit into a week. Lucky we’ve got a place to stay to head back and visit the rest!
We stuck to the coast most of our trip as the weather was perfect for lazy days on the beach and it was the little LMHers happy place, playing in the sea and building sandcastles all day but with beaches full of vintage airstream street food vendors and colourful ice cream trucks I have to say it was my happy place too. Just look at the choice available at Kite Beach…
Salt Burger had been on my list of places to try for a while, their polished airstreams are dotted all around the city, decorated with carousel style lights and rustic wooden pergolas. The sliders and milkshakes are perfect, as is the service.
La Mer is a very new beachfront development and isn’t yet fully completed but it’s already a gorgeous place to spend the day. The sea is like a lagoon, with hammocks dotted around and palm trees everywhere. Behind the beach are colourful, rustic beach huts that wouldn’t look out of place in the caribbean and lot’s of wood cladded cafes to grab lunch/coffee or dinner. We headed to Gossip as we’d enjoyed their Boxpark branch so much & weren’t disappointed with the cool decor – an upcycled wall feature and a neon made me very happy.
The walkways all around La Mer are draped with festoons and sail sunshades making it a beautiful place to spend the day, watch the sunset and have dinner on an evening. A Roxy cinema clad with salvaged metal and reclaimed wood is opening soon, it looks a very cool place to relax and I’m looking forward to seeing how the place develops.
City Walk isn’t near the beach but is definitely worth mentioning. It’s around the corner from Boxpark Dubai with a very similar vibe…shops and eateries are all stylishly laid out around the central fountain which has some very cool special effects in it’s nightly displays (you can see in my Instagram story highlights just how much fun they are…it snowed!). Just look how cool the Flamingo themed walls of Level kids, a department store devoted to children was and every where seemed to be as inspiring and we walked around exploring the place.
And a trip to Dubai just wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Boxpark, there’s something about it being in the sun and it’s subtle Arabic touches that makes it my favourite Boxpark (sorry London).
Have you been on a city break filled with inspiration recently? I’d love to hear all about it (& to add it to my wish list of places to visit in the future).
