Autumn Home Additions

I always find myself wanting to switch things around in the home come autumn, when creating a cosy ‘hygge’ environment filled with candles and low lighting is all I can think about. I’m the stay at home and hibernate kind of person (with one or two fun Christmas outings added into the diary to force me out). As you know this year I have been conscious of what I’m buying for the home and where I’m buying it from, I want any new additions that enter our home to be as sustainable and ethical as possible. Before shopping I moved some pieces of furniture around and gave the place a good declutter and clean to give me an idea of what could be added and where. Then I went about sourcing some autumnal pieces to fit into our home & here’s what I’ve added so far:

First up, I knew I needed something else to complete the bed dressing but wasn’t sure what, I didn’t want additional cushions to take away from the impact of the vintage grain sack cushion. This beautiful green throw works perfectly in the rooms design, it’s handmade in India from recycled saris and comes in lots of different colours and patterns.

I also wanted to make the guest bedroom feel a little cosier for any visitors over the festive period, this rug is lovely and thick, making it perfect for the bedside. It’s made in India from recycled scraps of denim woven in a zig zag pattern.

I’ve switched the natural basket used to house the bathroom greenery with this sequinned, black version. This one makes the space feel warmer and the touch of sparkle readies the room for the festive season (it’s also available in gold sequins which may be an ‘essential’ to pop a little Christmas tree in next month). The basket is made from natural seagrass in Vietnam.

I wanted to add some autumnal touches to our bar cart to switch our the summery accessories until next year. This bronze bowl made from recycled keys was the perfect, quirky piece to sit on the trolley, filled with Champagne (well the odd Champagne but mainly Cava and Prosecco) corks.

Lastly I wanted to add a little reminder of summer and warmer weather with some photographs taken from our travels this year. This small frame contrasts perfectly with summery images and is small enough to sit on a side table. It’s handmade from recycled tyres and rustic wood in India.

As I’ve said in my previous posts I can’t recommend shopping the Sourced by Oxfam range enough, it’s full of gorgeous homeware and the profits go to a good cause.
